What do you call when a person shuts themselves in a room for three days straight and depressed? No bathroom?

A member of my family to become locked in a room for three days straight, and supposedly depressed. They were not going to the bathroom or something. He just stood in the room and would not talk to any member of the family. What it means? This has to be worse than the depression. This goes beyond the norm.
