W cement / coal stove and earth?

Do you case harden a little piece of 1018 steel with a stove and coal gas plant as a carbon source? not know the temperature of the oven, but it is a blue flame ... Can I do this by heating the metal (red i think) and then roll in low bits of coal, then reheat to red Simple instructions, and hardening the water? for the process would be greatly appreciated.

used oil needs motor carbon bath and propane torch under the coal or coke in a tongue that can work go to You Tube and search tuning knives
