Does anyone have any idea how to cook a steak without setting off the fire alarm in my house?

I cooked a steak for a couple of times but both times the fire alarm was implemented. Does anyone have an alternative way to the kitchen instead of in the skillet over high heat? As this is the only method we know and have a tasty meat, thank you.

Take the battery in your smoke detector. Do not forget to put back when finished cooking.
