What led the Texans to revolt against the Mexican government?

Pres Taylor (or Tyler) wanted to take on Texas as a slave state, and since there are so many Americans that the Mexican president had allowed to live in Texas if they paid taxes (Mexico needed money), then it was an easy war to fight for the country. It was Sam Houston and Dallas that type at the Alamo, who fought for the state as a U.S. territory. But Congress at the time not allowing the pressure to put Texas in the U.S. as a state because the Liberals refused to bring in another slave state, so it remained a single country for 10 years. The State Lonestar, then they fought in the Mexican-American War and brought into Texas as a state .... slave state, but I think it was a western state that was introduced as a state free to compensate.
