What is the most professional point and shoot camera on the market?

I've been looking at the Canon G10. Is there anything better than this? Im wanting a point and shoot camera I ready for a DSLR. I will use the camera for outdoor pictures of people. I know about ISO doubtful ... I am super critical of photos, but I need to be very damn crisp and clear photo retoucher. I like their construction and appearance. Is this a good camera for me or should I try something else?

I totally agree with the United hesitate about buying the lowest of the low DSLR instead of G 10. The G 10 is an excellent P & S - probably the best there is. And it's the best way to build quality, lens quality and performance of any of the SLR entry-level digital with a kit lens. Be aware: After you have become accustomed to the quality of the G10, you'll have to get a very good digital SLR camera darn, with some quality glass, just to compete. In other words, forget the rebels, D 40 and D 60.
