Charcol OK to use Lil 'mini grill and fire pit?

I have a cheap but effective Charcol grill that I use for cooking. Could be used as a mini fire pit if I clean the Charcol and use some wood in it? You can not afford to buy a stake right now and thought I would do in a pinch. Whaddya think? Would it work and be safe? Has anyone tried this? Thanks in advance for your answers! I guess I do not understand. This would not be buried on the ground. It would be used on my patio table, which has a stone deck. Of course you can. The grille was made for that kind of temps. and provided that you keep clean and covered you can cook in one night and have a fire in the next.
