Mini Fire

Charcol OK to use Lil 'mini grill and fire pit?
I have a cheap but effective Charcol grill that I use for cooking. Could be used as a mini fire pit if I clean the Charcol and use some wood in it? You can not afford to buy a stake right now and thought I would do in a pinch. Whaddya think? Would it work and be safe? Has anyone tried this? Thanks in advance for your answers!
I guess I do not understand. This would not be buried on the ground. It would be used on my patio table, which has a stone deck. Among uses that would be covered with the lid that came with my grill and, well, I suppose I could cover with a large plastic bag for extra protection. my grill looks something like this, but not propane: http://www.cajun-outdoor-products.com/arctic_grill/porcelain_gas_grill.htm
Of course you can. The grille was made for that kind of temps. and provided that you keep clean and covered you can cook in one night and have a fire in the next.
