Mate Reserve

What is a boatswain's mate in the Coast Guard Reserve do?
I heard that they are the most versatile members Coast Guard. But what exactly is their role in search and rescue missions? If I become one of the reserves as a weekend usually is it? Thanks
Thanks for the question. A BM is the center of excellence for ship OPS. We have a variety of small boats that use SAR ops. Two Typically, a BM titles get is a helmsman and crew. A crew is things like trend lines, the man towbit, act as a helsman, act as an observation post, etc. The pattern is a dependent of a small boat. Usually, the man at the helm and give direction to the crew. On a mission SAR that is out in the ocean or Great Lakes, to be implemented search patterns and lift people out of a sinking ship if you find them. In some cases, can work with the aircraft CG. They can also tow disabled boats. The most common platform in RBS migh see the kind of boat is 25 feet Defense small and other small boat platforms. Formation of a crew member is using the manual FPT boat and the crew of PQS. This is the expectation BM3s. BM2 often which may include pursuing Coxswain Coxswain PQS School and CXN. Of the reserves, the contingency Qual helmsman requires 30 hours to march 10 if it has to be the night. This is done every 6 months. And he is 40 full Coxswain underway/10 night.
