Led Power

LED is a diode voltage versus current characteristics. Current is approximately an exponential function of stress, so that the results of a small voltage change in a major change in course. That is why it is important that the power supply provides the correct voltage. If the voltage is below the threshold no current will flow and the result is no LED light. If the voltage is too high, the current is going above the maximum grade, heating and potentially destroy the LED. As the LED heats up, its voltage drop decreases increasingly topical. Accordingly, the LEDs should be connected directly to the source of constant tension, if you take special care.

Series resistors are a simple way to stabilize the LED current, but wastes energy in the resistance. A regulator constant current is commonly used for high power LEDs. Low Drop Out (LDO) constant current regulators also allow the total voltage LED string to a greater percentage of the supply voltage, resulting in improved efficiency and reduced energy use. Switching power supplies are used in some LED flashlights, stabilizing the output of light over a wide range of battery voltages and increasing battery life. Miniature LED indicator are normally driven from low voltage through a current limiting resistor. The currents of 2 mA, 10 mA and 20 mA are common. Sub-indicators may be made mA by the ultra bright LED driving at very low prices today. It tends to reduce efficiency in low flows. Chains LEDs LEDs are normally operated in series, with stress LED total, amounting to about two thirds of the supply voltage, the current resistance control of each string. LEDs, by their nature, require direct current (DC) with low voltage, in contrast to the mains electricity supply network which supplies high-voltage alternating current (AC). A capacitor and a resistor followed by full-wave rectification is the usual electric ballast with series-parallel groups of LED. A single series string with dropper minimizes losses while chains parallel to increase reliability. In practice, usually three or more ropes are used. One of the advantages of a capacitor is that it can reduce the line voltage high to a low voltage if necessary without losing power, with a very simple circuit, one disadvantage is that there may be a large increase in the flow for a short time when powered by first time. Multiple LEDs can be connected in series with a current limiting resistance only if the source voltage is greater than the sum of the different voltages LED threshold. The parallel operation is also possible, but may be more problematic. LEDs in parallel must have closely matched forward voltages (Vf) to take branch currents equal and therefore the light output of equality. Variations in the manufacturing process can make it difficult to obtain satisfactory operation when connecting to some types of LEDs in parallel. To increase the efficiency (or to allow intensity control without the complexity of a DAC), power can be applied periodically or intermittently, while the flicker rate is greater than the human flicker fusion threshold, the LED will appear to be continuously illuminated.
