Knife Set

When you buy a knife set, how to know which knife is for what?
I bought a knife placed on the butcher block, and really do not know which knife is for what. There are no instructions, and I'm disoriented.
The smallest are probably steak knives. The most great with the pointed end is probably for the height, similar to blunt large is probably a bread knife. I know what that means, however. General Plan is, if the volume is cut whatever I'm trying to cut, that's good.
