Halogen Lamp

If you are looking for light bulbs with better energy efficiency than incandescent bulbs then halogen light bulbs or may be the answer. They provide more light for the production of energy input and can be found in ofiices, houses and vehicles. Halogen lamps were Originally developed to combat the problem of the short lifespan of standard bulbs. Halogen lamps are, therefore, well known for their efficiency and durability.

You can listen to the halogen tungsten halogen bulbs known due to the interaction of tungsten and halogen light produced. How does a halogen lamp, you may ask. A clear capsule is filled with a gas such as iodine (a halogen gas) and a tungsten element is sealed inside capsule with the gas. One of the magical things with a tungsten halogen lamp is that the parts of the tungsten element that evaporate when light is emitted is deposited in the hotspots within the capsule which help to prolong the life of the lamp. This means that halogen lamps can be allowed to operate at a temperature higher than incandescent lamps which means they can give a brighter and therefore more efficient.

During this chemical reaction of the capsule surrounding the bulb becomes extremely hot. This means that conventional glass can not be used as material for the manufacture of the capsule of the bulb. Instead of fused quartz is generally used as the bulb capsule. There is a useful side effect of using fused quartz and that is to become a source of UV-B. This in turn leads to halogen lamps are used in some scientific applications as a source of UV-B. In residential applications additives are put into the fused quartz to reduce the emission of UV-B.

Another thing that has improved the efficiency of halogen bulbs is the addition of a shield that has multiple layers. This allows the spectrum of visible light to be emitted but reflects infrared light toward the filament. This means that less energy is needed to produce the same light that leading to greater efficiency.

Halogen lamps are most prevalent in the automotive and domestic applications where a bright, directional light is required. A halogen bulb commonly used is the RPG-100, which is well known for his long life and cost-effectiveness and are often found in homes and offices. Another popular form of lighting halogen lamp is Halogen Torchiere This lamp comes with a metal stand and usually have an open container lid that provides reflected, indirect lighting. They are very popular among the student fraternity but care must be taken as they have been known to fall over and cause fires if not used according to the recommendations the manufacturer.

Another well-known manufacturer of halogen lamps is Philips. That produce many halogen bulbs known as the variety used Bipin usually in less than a cabinet or task lighting. The varieties MR11 and MR16 are used widely in track lighting and also in many lighting applications retail.
All in all halogen lamps offer an excellent alternative to incandescent bulbs.
