Green White

Q: Debra, I found your book to be intelligent, inspiring and full of useful information. It made me feel good about my own efforts to go green. Tell us what is your book.
A: Every day, I am in contact with people who want to live green ... they really want to do right. In talking with them, I realized that most people do not know the basics of green. The most common question I am asked is "How do I know if this product is really green?"
My book, green really is the answer to this question. It covers all the basics anyone needs to know to know the difference between products with real benefits environmental and health and those with misleading green hype. It covers everything from the definition of biodegradable way to identify green paint. But most importantly, outlines the basic principles that define organic products, so that anyone can be confident that you can recognize a green product when they see it.
Q: So, tell the world what "green" really means?
A: In the broadest sense, green includes any product, service or activity that supports life, both human and otherwise. So this would include everything from helping the environment on human health and social issues. "Green" is the umbrella that covers everything in these areas, including organic, business recycling, biodegradable, fair, and the lives of other practical support.
Q: Is there a standard by which we measure what is really green?
Yes, and that is not based on opinion. All we need do is look to nature for see a green product would take the resources that are rapidly renewable, taken sustainably, made efficient use of resources, and other guidelines practices. There can be no true and solid base of what constitutes a green product.
Q: What excited me most about his book was to learn that I am what is called a "consumer". How can we be more human and less the life of consumers have taught us to be?
A: Our identity of the consumer to have our whole lives revolve around buying things that just is not our natural state. We do not have to buy our lives, we can live our lives. Consumers depend on others to provide for them, but as human beings we can think for ourselves, we feel for ourselves, create for ourselves, and act to care for the welfare of all life.
Q: And, with all the years I've been in business, why you chose to write this book now?
A: I suddenly felt a new urgency ... we all have to go green right now! Last winter I spent some time in San Francisco. Surprisingly, in December, the camellias were blooming, flowering fruit trees, and fields of yellow mustard flowers. I was surprised! None of these things have to happen until February. I lived in Northern California for 47 years and I know that when the flowers bloom. The earth is changing.
This is more than a book for me is a mission. I feel called to do this at the deepest level of my being. The Earth is calling us all.
