How much time elapses before the jeans pocket will develop a pale outline of a can of snuff or purse?

Just wanted to see if anyone has knowledge of how long it takes a pair of jeans to develop a clear outline around a can of snuff or portfolio. I often see people with those pale Jean in his pockets and asked if the question of weeks, months or even a year. It is also a function of how thick of a wallet or tin is?
