Swedish Firesteel is the same as the flint and steel? (read details)?

Even if not exactly the same material, does it use the same method for creating sparks? (rapid oxidation of iron)

In general they are using the same princeipal. Besides the iron and metals Ferro-cerium, magnesium Firesteels add smaller amounts of other elements to the mix and the significant change in the characteristics sparks
