Is it possible to join the reserves, but the change of the contract to active duty right before camp?

My recruiter told me to sign the contract a Marine Reserve and that right before going to camp I could go into active service. Is this true or just a trick to get me to join? The only reason I am considering the marine reserve that is due to go into a faster boot camp, for active service doesn't open until next.

1. At enlist in the reserve, is in the Reserves from the moment I swear to scan it first. So to go on active duty, the commander reserve unit would be relieved of his enlistment in reserve. That can happen, but the recruiter can not. only the commander of the reserve unit can, and if short people, he will say no.
