The 1000 Guineas run on the Rowley Mile Racecourse in Newmarket, has existed for nearly 200 years. It was first run in 1814 and has remained one of the most avidly followed flat races and is the first British stage, along with the male counterpart, the 2000 Guineas. The race takes place on 3 May, the second day of the Festival Newmarket Guineas. He won the 2008 French training, flying filly, Natagora.

This year, the race may have more runners than usual and should go a long way in confirming that the John Gosden-trained, Rainbow View is all that last season seemed like two years old when he won four of four in impressive style, which included the Group One Fillies Mile 'at Ascot. It is now clear favorite to win the 1000 Guineas, but the result can not be as comfortable as some think.

One possible rival Fantasia Luca Cumani, who although not certain to run has come on leaps and bounds during the winter. The Cumani rates as much as his winning 2002 Irish 1000 Guineas, Gossamer. She met Rainbow See "Fillies Mile at the end of last season and was decisively defeated, but Cumani believes he can turn the tables, provided the new owner George Strawbridge allows him to run. The difficulty lies in the fact that also owns Strawbridge Rainbow View and might not want the two to meet again soon in the new season. Fantasia will have its place in stakes Nell Gwynne laster this month.

Coach Rae Guest is very optimistic about his undefeated filly, serious attitude. She came through his first season unbeaten in three starts including the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. She will go to Newmarket fresh, with results suggesting that the Guineas arrives early enough in the season and they will be happy to put it through of their steps in the gallop.

The French head of household is likely to run his mare higher proportion in the race. He was the winner of Group One Prix Marcel Boussac de Longchamp on Arc day and whenever it comes to hand is likely to have based his chance and the French have an excellent record in this race, this horse should have a great opportunity.

The challenge for Ireland is likely to be led by Jim Bolger Cuis Ghaire training. She was an early favorite for the race antepost after three consecutive wins as a juvenile. However, two defeats seemed to lessen the interest in her as a potential winner. Bolger, however confident that she will be back on track in time for the race and should not be ignored. It has also Maoineach as possible, she was the winner of the recent impressive Leopardstown 2000 Guineas Trial Bolger, but stands firm on the grounds that Cuis Ghaire is your number one for the race.

The Guineas marks the beginning of what a fantastic season class thoroughbred racing in the UK, Ireland and France, and the aim is that the horse that wins the Guineas to go and win races same name on both sides of the English Channel and the Irish Sea.
