Skyline Drive is a scenic 105 miles long curved path through the majestic peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains through Shenandoah National Forest in Virginia. North end of Skyline Drive is in Front Royal, VA, outside the U.S. 340 and only 500 meters above sea level. Both cars and cyclists share the curvy mountain drive, so it is important to obey the speed limit 35 mph along the boulevard. Backcountry camping is allowed throughout the Shenandoah National Forest and a free camping permit can be obtained by mail in advance or at a station Ranger after arriving. A small entrance fee is charged for entrance to Skyline Drive and the pass is valid for seven days.

Shortly after entering on Skyline Drive from the north end, you reach the Visitors Center and Dickey Ridge picnic area at MP 4.6. The visitor center offers a variety of information and exhibitions nearby. The first camp at Skyline Drive, Mathews arm, is at MP 22.1. Campers can also enjoy trips to Waterfall more Shenandoah High National Forest or stroll through a nature trail near the campsite relaxing. Nearby, at 24.1 MP is Elkwallow Wayside food and camping equipment and Elkwallow picnic area. The Wayside also has a grill that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to complete the picnic area or outdoor patio.

At 31.5 MP, can exit through Skyline Drive Rt 211 to visit beautiful Luray, VA in the Shenandoah Valley peaceful. Luray is home to incredible Luray Caverns where you can take a guided tour of the magnificent cave formations, including the famous song rocks. Luray also offers a variety of bed and breakfast lodging, and cabin rentals isolation. Just ahead, at MP 32, is passed through the rock of Mary the tunnel, the tunnel only at Skyline Drive. There is a high shortly after the tunnel that offers great picture of the structure.

The Pinnacles picnic area is located at MP 36.7 Skyline Drive and offers a peaceful, picturesque setting to enjoy a picnic or cook in one of the charcoal grills available. The bathrooms are also available here.
