What does it mean when a police car shines a bright white light in your car at night?

Many of the new police vehicles in the UK have a light bar installed on the new roof. This is the standard strobe lights (blue and red), but now have a light fitted to the sides called light alley. It allows the officer to illuminate the area beside the vehicle through an LED bright light. I think I could be equally likely that the officer was using the lights and looking for something else that was caught in the beam at one point. Nothing to worry about.
