How can you tell if a bottle is BPA free?

I stay with my second baby in a few weeks. I'm trying to figure out if it is safe use bottles saved me from my first child (purchased around 3.5 years). I have the original packaging of the bottles, but says nothing about BPA. I've heard you can tell if a plastic bottle is safe based on the number at the bottom, but can not find who are the "security numbers" to use. Thanks for your help!

Most likely, if it is perfectly clear, then it is free of BPA. BPA-free plastic is a kind of brown and murky future. I'll have to see what number is safe. Plastic containing BPA has a 7 on the bottom. Plastic has a 5 in it.
